Mojito Recipe

When entertaining, the mojitos should definitely be on your list of drinks to serve. This refreshing cocktail of mint, lime and rum, which originates from Cuba, is all the rage now. The mojito is known as the new cosmo.

The mojito is a favourite of many socialites and designers.

"Mojito," means "to cast a little spell," is rooted in Cuba and became famous with the developing of Bacardi rum on the island.

Good mint is essential for a great mojito.

One of the main secrets to a fantastic mojito is to muddle the lime and the mint. Muddling is mixing ingredients at the bottom of a cocktail glass with a muddler which looks like a miniature baseball bat. It hauls out the great oils and flavours of the mint and lime. If you don't have a muddler, you cam use the back of a spoon.

Mojito:

Ingredients:

12 fresh leaves of spearmint

1/2 lime

2 Tsp (10 ml) syrup (mix 2 parts sugar with 3 parts hot water, and chill it) or just use sugar

45 g Bacardi rum

Club soda/ Lemonade

Method:

1. Muddle the mint leaves with the lime in tall glass.

2. Coat with sugar or a simple syrup and top the glass up with ice.

3. Add the rum, and then the club soda and stir well.

4. Add crushed ice to the glasses when it's ready to serve.

5. Decorate the glass with a lime wedge and leaves of mint.

Note: For larger quantities it can also be made by the pitcher and shared amoung friends.
